7-Day Mauritius Holiday — Island Discovery & Leisure Escape
Explore & Unwind
Seven Days That Let the Island Come to You
Not every Mauritius holiday needs to be packed from dawn to dusk. This itinerary is built around a different idea — three guided days that show you the best of the island's culture, nature and coastline, balanced with two full leisure days where absolutely nothing is scheduled. It sounds simple, but this rhythm is actually what most travellers are looking for: enough to feel like you've genuinely experienced a place, and enough space to actually rest in it.
Package Highlights
A seven-day package built around balance — guided discovery of Mauritius' most rewarding destinations, paired with genuine downtime to enjoy your resort, the beach and the island at your own pace. Half-board throughout means breakfast and dinner are always sorted.
How the Week Unfolds
Your Week at a Glance
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arrival — Check In & Unwind
You're met at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport and driven to your hotel, where the rest of the day belongs to you. After a flight, the last thing most people want is a schedule — so there isn't one. The resort facilities are yours: the pool, the beach, the bar, a quiet spot with a book. Dinner in the evening at the hotel, and a proper night's sleep before the week begins in earnest tomorrow.
- Arrival and assistance at Mauritius Airport
- Private transfer to your hotel and check-in
- Full afternoon at leisure — resort, beach or pool
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel
North Mauritius — Port Louis & Pamplemousses Botanical Garden
After breakfast, your guide picks you up for a day in northern Mauritius. The Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam National Botanical Garden in Pamplemousses is the natural starting point — one of the oldest botanical gardens in the Southern Hemisphere, where the famous giant Victoria Amazonica water lilies sit on the central ponds looking impossible and extraordinary at the same time. The garden also contains some 85 species of palm, a cage of giant Aldabra tortoises, and trees that were planted during the island's French colonial period. From Pamplemousses, continue into Port Louis — the capital city, a place that rewards those who walk through it slowly rather than rushing between sights. The market, the old town streets, the harbour waterfront: each tells you something different about who has come through this island and what they left behind. Return to the hotel in the evening for dinner.
- Pamplemousses Botanical Garden — giant water lilies, rare palms and colonial-era trees
- Port Louis — the vibrant multicultural capital city
- Port Louis market, streets and harbour waterfront
- Return to hotel for dinner and overnight
Pamplemousses' ancient botanical garden, the streets of Port Louis and the sacred waters of Grand Bassin
Leisure Day — The Island at Your Own Speed
The first of two free days. No guide. No transfer. No timetable. Mauritius is excellent at occupying a free day without any effort on your part — the beach tends to fill the hours in ways you don't anticipate until you're actually sitting on it. If you'd like a little more structure, the island is easy to explore independently: local buses run between most towns, taxis are available through the hotel, and there are any number of small restaurants, markets and local villages within reach of most resorts. Or simply stay put. The pool, the sun and a good meal at the end of the day is, honestly, a fine way to spend a Wednesday in Mauritius.
- Full day at leisure — no guide, no fixed itinerary
- Resort facilities, beach or independent exploration
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel
South Mauritius — Grand Bassin & Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth
The south of Mauritius is where the island's volcanic geology becomes impossible to ignore. After breakfast, your guide takes you up into the highlands — the air gets cooler, the landscape gets denser and the island starts to look very different from the beach-and-resort belt most visitors stick to. Grand Bassin, also known as Ganga Talao, is the first major stop: a sacred Hindu lake that sits in a former volcanic crater deep inside a forested area. The temples and shrines surrounding it are colourful and active, and the sense of genuine spiritual life here — as opposed to the touristy temple visits that feature in so many itineraries — is something most visitors find unexpectedly moving. From Grand Bassin, continue to Chamarel for the Seven Coloured Earth. The geological formation here is one of the most curious on the planet: volcanic minerals in the soil create seven distinct colours — red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple and yellow — spread across a series of undulating dunes. They've never been shown to mix despite centuries of tropical rain, and standing in front of them, it's easy to understand why they attract so much attention.
- Grand Bassin (Ganga Talao) — sacred Hindu pilgrimage lake in a forest crater
- Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth — one of the island's most extraordinary natural sites
- Scenic highland drives through the lush southern interior
- Return to hotel for dinner and overnight
Île aux Cerfs — Full Day on the Island
A speedboat ride off Mauritius' east coast brings you to Île aux Cerfs — a small island sitting inside one of the most beautiful sheltered lagoons on this part of the Indian Ocean. The beaches are wide, white and lined with the kind of casuarina trees that filter the afternoon light into something almost cinematic. The water in the lagoon is warm, calm and clear enough to see right to the sandy bottom without needing to put your face in. The day is yours to spend however makes sense: swim, walk the island from end to end, find a quiet spot in the shade and do absolutely nothing. Optional water activities are available on the island for those who want to make the most of the environment — though there's no pressure to do anything more than float.
- Transfer to the east coast for speedboat ride to Île aux Cerfs
- Full day on the island — swimming, beach walks and relaxation
- Return to hotel in the evening for dinner and overnight
Île aux Cerfs' white shores and crystal lagoon — and the beach days that this itinerary gives you time to actually enjoy
Second Leisure Day — Whatever You Didn't Get Round to Yet
A second free day, and in some ways the better one. By now you know the island a little — where the good spots are near the resort, which direction the beach stretches, how far you can walk before the shade runs out. Use the day however it calls to you. If there's a corner of Mauritius you noticed on one of the guided days and wanted more time in, today is the day to go back. If the spa has been calling since Day 1, now is the time. If the most appealing plan is genuinely nothing at all, this itinerary has left you a whole day for exactly that. Dinner this evening is your last full night at the resort — make the most of it.
- Full free day — no guide, no scheduled activities
- Explore nearby attractions independently or relax at the resort
- Final full dinner and overnight at the hotel
Departure
A final breakfast, then check out and private transfer to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport. Seven days that moved between the highlands, the capital, the reef, a desert island and two completely free afternoons of nothing in particular. That's not a bad week by any measure.
- Final breakfast at the hotel
- Check-out and private transfer to Mauritius Airport
- End of Exotic Destinations KE services
